Skin Tight!

So, I woke up this morning and got ready to start my day.  Decided to wear a favorite pair of jeans that I hadn’t worn in awhile.  Pressed them up, found a really cute shirt to go with them, and…they were TOOOOO tight!! What!! I instantly went into my extreme way of thinking, cutting out every and all foods that I thought I might eat for the holidays. All of you know that I am passionate about my health but this is about vanity(those jeans really look good on me) which takes this situation to another level! At least I can admit it 😉

As I was sorting through my mind of all the foods that I would restrict myself from eating, I paused and thought to myself, “Is this a healthy way of thinking about having good food during good times?” Should I allow my inner food police to inhibit me from having a good time with my family just because my ego wants to fit into those jeans? I’m not the only one that has a food police during these times, but if you eat well year round you don’t have to police the food that you may indulge in for the holidays. I found that my indulgences tend to be less indulgent because of preference not policing.  I have learned to love foods that love me back. My family understands this and if I don’t bring a dish of my own they always have a few for me to choose from.  And sometimes I eat things that I may not eat on a regular during the holidays, as long as it doesn’t compromise how I feel at the end of the day.

So what does this have to do with those skin tight jeans? Everything and nothing!! It’s really not about the jeans but how I began to look at the foods that I wasn’t going to allow myself to eat during the holidays because of my added inches.  I know exactly what to do to get into those jeans with ease, more juicing more yoga. I also know that good food, good times, and good health can all unite during this season. It’s really how we eat year round that influences health and weight.  So relax, and be MERRY… Health is wealth!

Do you think you can have a good time eating good food and still be healthy during the holidays?

My Story

My Story

My yoga journey started five years ago but I didn’t start to understand my practice until I went through teacher training this past year. Yoga always brought a sense of clarity to my spirit and mind.  I also loved how my body felt so connected after practicing. It just felt natural to become a yoga teacher. Teaching is part of my fiber. I was a K-8/science teacher for ten years.  Teaching is part of my story.

At the beginning of my journey, I started out practicing and loving Vinyasa sequences; however, since becoming a RYT 200, I have been focusing on Yin/Restorative Yoga.  I have realized that people, including myself, don’t know how to be still! Once I allowed my spirit, mind, and body to just be, my focus as a new teacher became clearer. My mentor, Dianne Bondy, ERYT500, director of Eastside Yoga, influenced me to just be instead of trying to be.  I am learning to allow the new light within to shine through.

This light has always been to help others feel good about themselves as well as teach them how to heal their spirit, mind, and body by using food. Juicing was already my connection to helping people become more aware of their health, so it just made sense to integrate yoga to complete my passion package. This is my story…

Cauliflower has not been one of my favorite veggies because it makes me too bloated, but I know I need to eat more of it! So today I made a pizza crust using it. I am blown away on how amazing it turned out! So DELICIOUS!!  I added some artichokes and basil, which made it even more nutritious. I will definitely be making this again soon. Health is Wealth!!!

What’s your favorite way to make cauliflower?

Juicy Fruit

images (10) Pomegranate juice is available year round, but it’s not like Beyond Blends!!  You can purchase fresh pomegranates in most grocery stores from September through January. When refrigerated in a plastic bag, pomegranates keep for up to 2 months. Try tossing the seeds on a salad for a brilliantly colorful, crunchy, and nutritious addition. Rich in juicy antioxidants as well as known to benefit the heart and blood vessels.  A compound found only in pomegranates called punicalagin is the major component responsible for pomegranate’s antioxidant and health benefits. Pomegranates have also been revered as a symbol of health, fertility and eternal life. I’ll drink to that!!

Get your “Juicy Fruit” while pomegranates are in season!! Health is wealth…

Mood-D

Feeling a little Mood-D lately? You may have heard about seasonal affective disorder (or SAD, as it is also called), which is linked to inadequate sunlight and therefore a vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D plays an important role in our energy levels, moods, and helps to build healthy bones, heart, nerves, skin, and teeth, and it supports the thyroid gland. Both a vitamin and a hormone, vitamin D is primarily made in our bodies as a result of getting adequate sunlight.  When my vitamin D is low I load up on Sweet Potatoes! Why? Sweet potatoes are rich in vitamin D which is critical for our immune system and overall health at this time of year. They also give you tons of energy and are known to help keep your waistline in check, without the extra additives of course.

So pop one in the oven tonight or order a Sweet Potato Pie from Beyond Blends😉 Health is Wealth!!!
